Missoni Afternoon Tea Review

Hi everyone,

So after the treatments that we indulged in at the Missoni Hotel Edinburgh, we were then booked in for afternoon tea at half past four. The bar area is absolutely stunning. Look how beautiful the light arrangements are. I love how it is lit up as it creates a relaxing atmosphere and I adore the lunar phase photos on the back wall.

The Afternoon Tea that we opted for was £20.50 per person and you can choose from a wide selection of hot drinks. I chose hot chocolate at first and then coffee thereafter. You also have the option of Prosecco for £26 each, a cocktail for £28.50 each, or Prosecco and chocolate dipped strawberries for £29.50.

The waitress stated that the chef recommends that you eaten the certain food in a particular order so we started off with this mini homemade amaretto ice cream which was delicious.

We were served by such a friendly waitress whose serving and personable skills were top notch. The Afternoon Tea arrived on a three tiered cake stand with the sandwiches on the bottom, scones in the middle and selection of desserts on the top row.

 The sandwiches we received were; cheddar cheese with pumpkin chutney, ciabatta with cured pork, rocket salad and balsamic onions, foccacia with mustard cress and egg mayonnaise and Scottish smoked salmon with soft cheese and chives. My favourites were the cheese and egg sandwiches.

These were the homemade scones with clotted cream and Missoni jam which were delicious.

For the desserts we received salted caramel macarons, frozen mocha ganache with white chocolate topping, chestnut cake and a delicious marshmallow each.

The waitress asked us if we were stopping in the hotel and I said that we had been to the spa for treatments and we were celebrating our Birthdays' and our engagement. She then brought us over the most amazing looking cocktail I have ever laid my eyes upon. The fruit was fresh and delicious and so was the cocktail. How lovely of her to do that!

We felt truly special here and this is the poshest Afternoon Tea I have ever had! The food quality and different tastes blows others completely out of the water.

Afternoon Tea at Le Monde Edinburgh

I think I have a thing for afternoon teas. I just love the selection of cakes and sandwiches with the pot of tea or coffee. I love the arrangement of them and the cake stands. 

Here is an afternoon tea review in photos from Le Monde on 16 George St, Edinburgh which I went to with my lovely mum. This was before I dyed my hair dark and looking back at the photos, I miss my blonde hair.

The decor in this place is absolutely gorgeous and screams luxury. At first when we went in and asked for a table the two girls near the front door looked at though we had asked a strange question. After a few minutes we were taken through to the back for a table and we were served efficiently after this.

The afternoon tea is served from 2pm until 6pm daily and was priced at a reasonable £10.95 per person or £15.95 if you wanted Rose wine instead of the tea selection.

I love the pinky purple coloured lights. It was quite dark inside and was lit by candles on each table.

The sandwiches were on regular bread and plain looking. They were filled with a selection such as roast ham, cheese salad and chicken tikka which I'm sure a lot of people would enjoy but are quite plain for a fancy place.

The cake selection included fruit tarts, fresh scones with cream and jam and some sort of sponge cake.

Oh blonde hair I miss you! Although it's a lot less maintenance dark and has grown more.

The stand that it arrived on was metal and contemporary looking which is different from the traditional cake stands.

Overall I loved the atmosphere and luxe decor of this place and the afternoon tea was good. I wouldn't dash back to have it again but would go for some cocktails and try something else.

Casa Angelina Afternoon cake tea

Hello everyone,

Before Christmas I was sent an e-mail from Groupon. On it I spotted an offer for afternoon tea at Casa Angelina on 42 London St, Edinburgh, EH3 6LX,  so I decided to buy one so I could treat my mum when she came to visit me. The offer was only £6.95 and you got to choose from a range of teas, a scone each and a little cupcake with a raspberry adorned on them.

I loved the outside of the shop as it is pink and I adore afternoon teas too so I was really looking forward to going. The only thing I found with Groupons sometimes is that it is really hard to book them. It took me three attempts at trying to book this afternoon tea (direct with Casa Angelina) as I didn't get a response at first (It took over a week and I had to chase it up.)

The Vintage Tea room and patisserie has a small breakfast menu, lunch menu and sells a range of homemade cakes.

Casa Angelina is named after the owners grandmother from Italy who used to make delicious food. People in the neighbourhood would use to stop by on the way home from work as she always made an excess of food. She was the inspiration to create the Casa Angelina tea room.

The prices are really good for the food and drinks but this menu feels as though it is from a cheap cafe rather than a vintage tea room. We could choose from the wide selection of teas on offer and chose the Scottish  breakfast tea.

You go through the shop and into the back to be seated. This room was quite large and decorated with vintage pieces and artwork on the walls. The basket you can see at the back was advertised as a dressing up box but it was all just thrown in. The room was also cold and didn't really have an atmosphere.

On the fireplace at the back you can see Angelina and the background story.

I really like how she inspired the owner to open up her own business. It just goes to show that if you follow your heart, your dreams come true.

The room was decorated as though you were in a large living room. It had different arrangements of tables and chairs inside.

I like the bird cage art work on the wall but the sheer curtains didn't make the overall artwork look finished.

This homemade rhubarb jam was incredible. It was the best jam I have ever tasted in my life. I love clotted cream too, so on the scones it was truly scrumptious.

All of the cups, saucer and teapots were vintage too to tie in with the whole theme.

The scones were fresh, still warm and absolutely delicious. 

Now I'm not entirely sure why I haven't taken a picture of the stand that it came on. Thinking back, I think I felt uncomfortable and it wasn't a 'warm' atmosphere.

This was before I had my hair dyed chocolate reddy brown! I love my Bambi jumper and the diamante necklace! It was on a Sunday morning after a busy weekend.

This sign made me giggle which was hanging above the toilet in the bathroom.

The presentation of this bun is gorgeous and it tasted lovely too.

So overall, I wouldn't eat inside here again. I just didn't like the feel of the place. It wasn't over friendly and lacked atmosphere. The food is brilliant quality though so this cannot be faulted at all. I'm a very positive, bubbly person  but also very honest and both me and my mum felt the same.

Mimi's Bakehouse Afternoon Tea Review

On Sunday we went to Mimi's Bakehouse which is on 63 Shore in Edinburgh. We had vouchers from my sister-in-law to be for our engagement gift which was so lovely.

I was so excited to go and after Googling the menu online we decided to have the afternoon tea. I adore afternoon teas and always want this option if I go to a place that has it. 

Mimi's bakehouse has gorgeous decor and the queue was out of the door when we first arrived so it's a good job that I booked beforehand. It's large inside which is great as it can fit lots of people, plus the atmosphere isn't compromised. I loved the signs and artwork on the walls - one large one said "I knew you were coming so I baked." Which I didn't get a photo of unfortunately as we weren't near enough .

I loved these gift vouchers as they had a gorgeous design and beautiful pastel colours.

The menu for the afternoon tea was already on the table waiting as we were shown over and decided to go for the classic afternoon tea. 

There were so many varieties of tea to choose from but I prefer the everyday brew. We got around one and a half cups each out of this pot.

The raspberry jam and clotted cream on the scones were one of my favourite parts of the afternoon tea. It was absolutely delicious. I put wayyyy too much on my scones!

The afternoon tea arrived on a vintage three tier cake stand which was lovely. There were four scones on the top layer, eight mini cakes on the middle tier and twelve little sandwiches on the lower tier.

To me at first glance the portions look small but when you start to eat, you start to get surprisingly full.

This is the rocky road mini bite- I'm not sure if it's actually named this but it looks like it! This was yummy with generous pieces of marshmallow inside.

From left to right- Mini meringues with raspberry and blueberries, marshmallow road, white chocolate Malteser bite and red velvet Valentine's cupcakes.

These scones were delicious and I could have eaten more of these.

This was one of the signs up on the wall near to where we were sat. I love anything like this and would have this in my house.

My camera focused more on my nail polish here rather than the delicious white malteser which didn't last two minutes!

This red velvet cupcake was delicious. The sponge was incredibly moist and I loved the little candy crunch hearts on the top. I would have preferred for it to be a little larger as I would with the sandwiches too.

The quality of the ingredients is excellent and I cannot fault the food at all it was all delicious.

From left to right there is ham with mustard mayonnaise which was my favourite, salmon and cucumber and egg mayonnaise. The bread for the egg mayonnaise sandwich was so fluffy and soft. The sandwiches were all the same size and quite small.

 I had a really great time here and what a fab present. I would highly recommend this place as it's beautiful and has excellent quality food.The staff were friendly and it was good to get away and have a proper date.

I did feel full up afterwards and we had enough money left from the vouchers to take away two very large truffles from the counter with us.

Vintage nice'TEAS'

Thought I would share another two of my favourite books which not only have fabulous content but look great as a decorative piece too.

These two books are amazing. I first saw the one on the right in Urban Outfitters and as I flicked through and saw the journey of photos and recipes I knew I needed this.

The 'Vintage Tea Party Year' by author Angel Adoree is my most recent purchase. The rrp is £20 although I purchased it *here* which is a bargain and comes with free delivery worldwide.

Angel encapsulates vintage style and is also the founder of The Vintage Patisserie, a popular vintage hosting company offering bespoke tea parties from a bygone era. These books are a guide for vintage lovers through the season with beautiful photography and includes charming illustrations.

"The Vintage Tea Party Year takes you on twelve months of parties, celebrations and tea-time treats as well as introducing more hairstyles and craft projects for your chosen theme"

They are  a complete guide to hosting your own tea party with different themes to suit the seasons and celebrations.

These books give me inspiration and in my head I can envision holding a tea party with scrumptious food and decorations. Think this needs to be on my 'to-do' list :)

I also absolutely love afternoon / high teas and I'm making it my mission to try out as many different ones as I can find and photograph them! I adore the perfectly cut sandwiches on the different tiers and one of my favourite material things in life is dessert! yum!
